Hydroentanglement
Bonding a fibre web with high-pressure water jets instead of adhesive.
Hydroentanglement (spunlace)
Water jets drive surface fibres through the thickness of the web so that they wrap around neighbouring fibres, locking the structure mechanically. Because nothing is added, the resulting material has no binder film to stiffen as it dries or to leave residue on skin.
The process also transfers the pattern of the forming screen into the web, which is why an apertured or ribbed spunlace towel keeps its texture after washing rather than losing a printed surface.
